IEEEtran bibliography diagnostic files
Tested locally on October 6, 2026 with Tectonic 0.17.0 (XeTeX), IEEEtran class 1.8b in conference mode, and IEEEtran.bst 1.14 with classic BibTeX.
The Overleaf web editor was not used for compilation. Overleaf UI instructions follow its official documentation.

Upload main.tex and references.bib to a separate Overleaf project. Choose main.tex as the main document and pdfLaTeX, then Recompile.
Working citation sequence: [1], [2], [1]. The bibliography lists LeCun before Dijkstra.

Each .tex file under variants is a complete alternate main document. Select one at a time, keep references.bib at the top level, and recompile from scratch.
missing-key.tex deliberately changes the first citation to lecunn1998. It should show [?], [1], [2]. Restore lecun1998 to fix it.
missing-bibliography.tex deliberately removes the bibliography command. It should show three [?] markers and no reference list. Restore the command to fix it.
sorted-style.tex deliberately selects IEEEtranS. It should show [2], [1], [2] and list Dijkstra first. Restore IEEEtran to use citation order, if your venue requires it.
reordered.tex moves the Dijkstra sentence first under IEEEtran. It should show [1], [2], [2] and list Dijkstra first.

The two source records describe real publications. The manuscript sentences are test text, not a research paper.

Use your venue's required template, style and formatting for submission. This package isolates bibliography behavior and does not certify publication compliance.

The local XeTeX compiler substituted some font shapes. The PDFs test bibliography behavior; use your venue template and compiler for final typography.
